Our Team
GEMMA COWAN
Owner / Optometrist
Gemma Cowan graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1998. She spent three years working in an independent optometry practice in Mildura, during which time she also worked with Vision Australia in the low vision rehabilitation clinic. On her return to Melbourne she completed her qualification for therapeutic endorsement in 2002 and is fully qualified to prescribe prescription eye drops. She spent the next 10 years as Senior Optometrist in one of the leading Cataract and Refractive Surgery Clinics in Melbourne.

After marrying the love of her life and having two beautiful children she decided to return to private practice in 2013. Wanting to spend quality time with her family while still maintaining her passion for Optometry, she spent 6 years working locally in Berwick, where she lives. Committed to offering the highest quality of care to her patients resulted in her opening her own practice in 2019 and Beaconsfield Eyecare was born.
HUW SMALLBONE
Optometrist
Huw Smallbone graduated from Manchester University in 1972 and relocated to Victoria in 1974. Huw is still passionate about all aspects of Optometry. He has worked in Berwick since 1979 and still has patients from those early days. Huw has a large following that are already coming to Beaconsfield and he will be happy to welcome many more!
